Meet Thornley Flooring
Danny brings more than 20 years of flooring experience to every project, with thoughtful advice, careful preparation and a finish built to last. He has a genuine passion for design — and one of his favourite sayings sums it up well: "the only thing holding you back is your imagination". He's straightforward to deal with, happy to talk things through at any stage, and won't leave until the job is done properly. Originally from Urmston in Greater Manchester, Danny recently relocated with his family to Oswestry in Shropshire — and now serves a wider area across Shropshire, North Wales and the Welsh Borders, while continuing to take on work across Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire where he built his reputation.
Supply & fit
Danny sources flooring directly from a carefully chosen range of premium suppliers — carpets, LVT, wood, rubber, cork and more — and installs everything himself. No middlemen, no subcontractors. You get one specialist who knows the products inside out and takes full responsibility for the finished result. Free estimates and quotes are available, and if you already have your flooring sorted, Danny is happy to price for installation only — just get in touch.
Danny is just as particular about what goes underneath as what goes on top. A floor is only as good as the preparation beneath it, so he works with professional-grade subfloor products — including F.Ball adhesives and preparation compounds — to ensure every installation is built to last from the ground up.
Thornley Flooring offer a lifetime guarantee on labour and workmanship — for the lifetime of the product — subject to terms and conditions. Please note this covers the fitting only, not the product itself.
What we do
From a single room to a whole property — every project gets the same care and attention to detail. Chosen well, installed properly, and made to last.
Carpet remains one of the most popular flooring choices for good reason — it's warm underfoot, reduces noise, and comes in an enormous range of textures, weights and colours to suit any room.
Natural flooring such as sisal, seagrass and coir brings a tactile, organic quality that works beautifully in living rooms, staircases, hallways and bedrooms. Danny can help you find the right weave, backing and finish for your space and lifestyle.
Wood flooring adds warmth, character and long-term value to any home. Solid wood is a classic investment that ages beautifully over the years. Engineered wood offers the same natural beauty with greater stability across different environments.
Danny is experienced in a wide range of laying patterns — from traditional straight boards to intricate herringbone and parquet designs — and will advise on the best species, grade and finish for your room.
Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) has transformed the flooring market — offering the look of wood or stone with outstanding durability, water resistance and comfort underfoot. It's a practical choice for kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and family rooms. Danny works with leading LVT brands including Kährs, Karndean and Textures LVT, amongst others, to ensure quality at every price point.
Laminate provides a cost-effective alternative with a wide range of realistic finishes — a great option where budget matters without compromising on appearance.

Rubber flooring is resilient, easy to clean and surprisingly versatile. It's a practical choice for kitchens, utility rooms, playrooms and home gyms — and increasingly popular in contemporary interiors where a clean, industrial aesthetic is desired.
Danny is a registered fitter for The Colour Flooring Company, specialists in vinyl, cork, wood and rubber flooring — giving you access to their full range with the assurance of a trusted, approved installer.
Available in a wide range of colours and finishes, rubber flooring is comfortable underfoot, slip-resistant and built to handle heavy use.
Cork is a naturally sustainable material that offers warmth, cushioning and excellent sound insulation. It's a characterful option that works beautifully in living spaces, bedrooms and home offices.
Modern cork flooring is far more durable and design-led than its reputation suggests, with a range of finishes and formats that suit both traditional and contemporary interiors. As a registered installer for The Colour Flooring Company, Danny fits their cork range with the full backing of an approved professional.

Thornley Flooring works with offices, retail spaces, care homes and commercial premises across the region. Commercial projects demand flooring that performs under pressure — resistant to heavy footfall, easy to maintain and compliant with safety requirements.
Safety flooring is designed to reduce the risk of slips and falls in environments such as kitchens, care settings and wet areas. Danny works with trusted commercial suppliers including Polyflor to specify the right product for every application.
Some of our work
A selection of the materials, details and finishes Thornley Flooring can bring to your space.
A compass star cut and designed by Danny entirely from LVT — each geometric segment individually measured, cut, and fitted to achieve perfectly sharp points and seamless joins. The kind of detail that can't be templated; it takes time, patience, and a steady hand to get right.
A full open-plan renovation across kitchen, living area and hallway, laid in Polyflor Camaro Rigid Core LVT in Naked Blonde Oak. The herringbone pattern adds warmth and movement to the space, while the rigid core construction delivers a crisp, modern finish that's built to handle everyday life.
A beautiful hardwearing carpet with a black taped edge, flatweave carpet is perfect for heavy traffic areas like staircases and the beautiful herringbone pattern delivered a classic timeless look.
A practical, polished surface for everyday living. Full sub-floor preparation with F.Ball and Installation using Polyflor Camaro LVT
A stunning entrance with this Victorian styled hallway using Amtico Heritage LVT
A classic herringbone pattern bringing warmth and character to a modern living space using Karndean Art Select, the Rolls Royce of flooring
Sisal carpet fitted throughout three bedrooms, a double flight of stairs, and landing — a full-house natural flooring project in Manchester. The standout detail: Danny fitted the carpet around the existing traditional cast iron radiators without moving them. No plumber, no disruption — just precise cutting and fitting so clean that the customer was convinced the radiators had been removed, carpeted under, and plumbed back in. They hadn't. Natural sisal brings a timeless, tactile quality that wears beautifully over years and suits period properties like this one perfectly.
A Polyflor Camaro Herringbone LVT in Cambridge Oak, installed in a hallway, with a running block border and a 10mm walnut colour feature strip.
Tromso Herringbone LVT installed throughout the hallway, kitchen, utility area and bathroom — a complete downstairs transformation in a single material. The customer wanted a deliberate turn in the herringbone pattern between the hallway and kitchen, a detail that takes real skill to execute cleanly and gives the whole floor a considered, bespoke quality. Black feature strips run through the floor design, with the curved detail carrying neatly around the bullnose of the stairs. Framed by the stunning black glass doors, the result is a ground floor that feels cohesive, design-led and built to last. The bullnose itself was a redo — the previous fitter's work hadn't met the standard the customer expected, so Danny hand-sewed it properly from scratch.
Karndean Art Select Herringbone glue down LVT installed in a traditional 3x9 herringbone pattern giving a seamless flow to this downstairs area.
Herringbone LVT complementing crisp white cabinetry in a contemporary kitchen.
A pre-finished 16mm engineered wood, supplied by the customer and fitted to a clean straight-lay pattern — a timeless look that works equally well in a new build or a period home.
Polyflor Fusion range Finger block LVT installed on the diagonal through a hall and open-plan kitchen diner in Urmston. Running the floor at 45 degrees is a deliberate design move — it breaks the natural sightlines of the room, draws the eye across the space rather than straight down it, and gives the whole area a sense of width and flow that a standard straight lay simply cannot match. It demands more care in the cutting and setting out, but that extra effort is exactly what makes the finished result feel so intentional.
A short-pile dense twist carpet runner with a whipped edge, fitted to the staircase and perfectly complementing the Cronotex herringbone laminate laid throughout the hallway. Both the carpet and laminate supplied and installed by Danny.
A hardwearing twist pile carpet fitted throughout this rental property — every room, landing and staircase in a single material for a clean, consistent finish. The stairs were finished with hand-sewn bullnose edges: a traditional technique that gives each tread a neat, tailored look and stands up to the kind of daily traffic a busy rental property demands.
Bold, statement sheet rubber flooring fitted in an en-suite bathroom in Chorlton — a rich red that turns a functional space into something with real character. Rubber is one of the most hardwearing floor coverings available: water-resistant, comfortable underfoot, and built to last. A material that works just as well in a design-led home as it does in a commercial setting.
A natural sisal stair runner finished with a turmeric-coloured bound tape edge — a bold, characterful detail that holds its own against the striking blue staircase. Sisal is one of the most hardwearing natural fibres you can put on a staircase, and the pop of turmeric at the edge gives it a warmth and confidence that a plain border never could. The colour pairing is stunning: the deep blue paintwork and the golden-yellow tape lift each other beautifully, turning a functional staircase into a real design statement.
Natural cork laid through the kitchen — warm underfoot, naturally sound-absorbent, and fitted as a registered installer for The Colour Flooring Company.
Every tile in this French Weave pattern was hand-cut from Polyflor Fusion LVT on site to achieve the precise interlocking geometry across the kitchen and dining area. A design that demands patience and skill — each piece individually measured, scored, and fitted by hand for a seamless result.
Full sisal carpet fitted to the entire staircase and landing — not a runner, but a complete wall-to-wall installation across every tread, riser and the landing above. Natural sisal brings texture and warmth that's hard to match with synthetic alternatives, and fitting it properly to a full staircase takes patience and precision to get a clean, tight result throughout.
Danny fitted the entire hallway floor — full LVT installation in Polyflor Colonia, cut from full plank into a herringbone pattern with 10mm walnut colour feature strips — then hand-cut and set a cascading cube design inlay as the centrepiece, using the same Polyflor Colonia product in a contrasting colour to achieve the cube effect. Every geometric segment individually measured and cut to achieve sharp angles and seamless joins throughout. Tommy the tortoise was particularly interested in the finished result.
Full open plan installation across kitchen, dining room, and snug using Project Floors glue down LVT — tile effect in a light colour to give the space a clean, airy feel, with light feature strips used as grout lines between tiles. Glue down for a solid, permanent finish underfoot. The result keeps the floor looking fresh and cohesive across three connected areas without a single grout joint to maintain.
